BILD - Supporting People to Make Choices
Date: 20th May 2008
Venue: Kidderminster
Cost: £47-£99.83 (sliding scale)
We all make choices every day, some good, some not so good - but this is all part of the way in which we develop the skills to take more control of our own lives.
For people with a learning disability, making even everyday choices can be difficult if others do not support them to build their experience, skills and confidence. Valuing People, Individual Budgets, Direct Payments and the Mental Capacity Act all throw up differnt challenges around really involving people in the process of choice, but how do we do this and how do we maintain the balance between choice and risk?
This event will cover different ways of involving people in making choices at all levels and encouring participants to think about practical ways of using what they learn with the people they support.
This is aimed at anyone who supports people with a learning disability. For more information, please contact learning@bild.org.uk.
