Action for Advocacy to run more IMCA training in 2008

Are you new to advocacy? Our Introduction to Advocacy training provides an overview of the different models and key skills for effective advocacy. Anyone new to advocacy; advocates, advocacy co-ordinators and advocacy development workers will benefit. It costs £75 for the voluntary sector and £105 for the statutory sector, which includes lunch and refreshments.
A4A have been awarded a contract to develop some training modules of the National Advocacy Qualification. Action for Advocacy (A4A) are one of the organisations that have been commissioned to develop materials for the National Advocacy Qualification.
The seven taught modules will be:
1. The Purpose and Principles of Independent Advocacy
2. Providing Effective Independent Advocacy Support
3. Maintaining the Advocacy Relationship
4. Understanding and Responding to the Advocacy Needs of Different Groups
5. Independent Adult Advocacy
6. Independent Mental Health Advocacy
7. Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy
Are you a Trustee or Manager of an advocacy project? Come along to one of these free Standards Support Project Workshops. Do you want to find the right balance of risk taking to develop your advocacy service? Are you aware of the potential risk that advocacy practice and running an organisation can pose? Are you keen to develop tools and methods to mitigate these risks without stifling creativity?

What are the key issues in relation to maintaining structural independence, conflicts of interest and operational freedom for advocates to act according to the wishes and needs of service-users? Come along to this free Standards Support Project workshop in Wales, facilitated by Welsh Development Officer, Pete Irvine. The workshop will be a mixture of group activities, discussion and facilitator presentations.

This course is aimed at Service Managers or Trustees who supervise or line manage the people responsible for the organisations finances. It is designed to help you support them in their role, have a better understanding of the work they do, and to make better use of the information you receive.
